Dirk Sampselle, JD, MBA
Dirk Sampselle is Founder of B Revolution, Inc., a family of enterprises dedicated to growing the B Corporation movement. A nationally-recognized expert in the benefit corporation legal entity and business strategy for B Corporations, Dirk is a drafting author of B Lab’s Benefit Corporation White Paper, the legislative memorandum used to educate legislators on the benefit corporation legal form and facilitate adoption by the States. His article, “The Benefit Corporation: An Economic Analysis with Recommendations to Courts, Boards, and Legislatures,” appears in 62 Emory Law Journal (2013), a top publication for legal scholarship. He regularly counsels startup and growth companies on how to achieve high performance on the B Corporation certification, and he develops business and legal strategy for B Corporations through executive workshops and by serving as an independent Board member and Advisor to growth companies.
In 2012 B Lab co-founder Jay Coen Gilbert remarked, “Dirk has been an effective champion of B Lab’s work for a year, having organized a successful conference and produced excellent research and analysis for our policy team. He was one of the initial three drafting authors of an important white paper on benefit corporations and carried out an extremely thorough comparative entity study. I am thrilled he is putting his knowledge and entrepreneurial drive to use to help others build successful enterprises.”
Dirk received his Juris Doctorate and MBA as a Dean’s Scholar at Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA, where he studied corporate governance under Myron Steele, sitting Chief Justice of the Delaware Supreme Court. He also participated in Pepperdine’s Certificate in Socially, Environmentally, and Ethically Responsible Business led by Dr. Michael Crooke, former CEO of Patagonia. During his time at Pepperdine, Dirk served as his School’s President of APIL, Advocates for Public Interest Law, and was a member of the SEER Committee and an Officer in Net Impact.
Prior to attending graduate school, Dirk founded Citizens for Social Justice, a 501(c)3 charity serving the homeless population of Gainesville, FL, while earning his Bachelor’s degree cum laude from the University of Florida. In 2010, Citizens for Social Justice acquired another non-profit, Homevan, which provides emergency services to the chronically homeless. Dirk presided over that acquisition as Chairman of the Board of Directors for Citizens for Social Justice.
